In the club’s announcement today, they revealed Zuparic played through the injury during the playoffs last year, while Mabiala’s was more recent. Mabiala is 34 years old and Zuparic is 29.
Mabiala and Zuparic started together in 22 of Portland’s 42 matches in all competitions in 2021.
With usual next-man-up Bill Tuiloma away with New Zealand on international duty, Zac McGraw is the only remaining center back on the roster.
Portland begin the 2022 season hosting last year’s Supporters’ Shield winners, the New England Revolution, on Feb. 26th at Providence Park.
