Valeri logged 100 goals and 104 assists in 306 appearances for the Timbers. He led Portland to a MLS Cup victory in 2015 and won MLS MVP in 2017, with five MLS All-Star nods along the way.
“There are no words to describe what Diego Valeri represents to the Portland Timbers and MLS,” head coach Gio Savarese said in the press release. “His humility and his soccer will always be synonymous to the Portland Timbers.”
“El Maestro” will represent both clubs in a testimonial match in 2023, playing one half for each team. He will also be a club ambassador for the Portland Timbers.
Valeri, who was still under contract for the 2022 season, made $915k on the Timbers last season.
