Cliff Notes: College Football Playoffs – ‘Bama, Michigan advance in my semifinal picks

There’s no debate this time. Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, and Cincinnati. These are the four best teams in college football, and they’re ready to put on a show. Here are my picks for the College Football Playoff Semifinals on New Year’s Eve.

#1 Alabama (12-1) vs #4 Cincinatti (13-0)

First of all, that loss at College Station seems like a lifetime ago, and the Crimson Tide’s most recent outing left many (including myself) thinking the same thing — you just don’t bet against Nick Saban’s Alabama program. The Bearcats have put together a historic season, yes, and will probably give the Tide a fight … but for how long? I fully expect Bryce Young and the Tide to run away with this game in the second half.

Cliff’s Pick — Alabama 41, Cincinatti 21

#2 Michigan (12-1) vs #3 Georgia (12-1)

This one will be closer, probably MUCH closer. For all the offense likely to be on display in the earlier game, this will be one for the traditional football fans who love defense and power running games. It’s strength (Michigan’s run game) vs strength (Georgia’s run defense) and it may come down to who makes the bigger plays in the pass game, and the coaches calling those plays. With that being said, I’m gonna side with the former quarterback (UM coach Jim Harbaugh) over the former defensive back (UG coach Kirby Smart).

Cliff’s Pick — Michigan 20, Georgia 14
