NBA, Blazers to Return in Late July

by Kevin Nesgoda

It was reported today that the NBA is going to be returning on July 31st for a quick eight game regular season finish and then going into the playoffs with the NBA Finals wrapping up in early October.

All current NBA playoff teams are going to be invited to finish the season at Walt DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida. Joining the playoff teams is going to be the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, and the Washington Wizards.

When the season was postponed back in early March the Blazers were only 3.5 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference.

There will be a potential play in game to the playoffs if the 9th seed is within four games of the 8th seed.

The Blazers should be a much healthier team when they resume camp in Orlando. Zach Collins was on the verge of returning in March and it was predicted that Jusuf Nurkic would see some game time in April. Both men have had a bit more time to heal and should be part of some much needed depth the Blazers lack in the front court. After Carmelo Anthony and Hassan Whiteside went to the bench things got dicey for the Blazers at that point and you never knew what you were going to get on any given night.

It will be great to see Damian Lillard out on the court again, along with CJ McCollum and Gary Trent Jr. who was really starting to find his feet in the league.

The League and Players Association are expected to finalize all of this tomorrow in a formal vote.
